Thank you so much for taking an interest in this community based project to help kids and their families get more educated on the benefits of eating and exercising properly. This community project was founded by Drew J. Kaplan co-owner of ISWest a local Business to business Internet service provider. Drew grew up being an overweight child with a mother that loved him through food and a father who didn’t encourage sports or activity because of his own heart condition. What Drew and his parents were lacking is the knowledge we have today about how important it is to eat healthy food and participate in daily exercise and activities. Drew has been joined by Ernie Salazar the owner of Newbury Park Athletic Club who shares Drew’s passion for education, health and fitness. Ernie is a 10 year Army veteran that attributes his military training and being active in sports since childhood that helped him overcome Cancer and keep him in remission for 6 years. He shares his knowledge and passion as a volunteer Strength and Conditioning coach at Newbury Park High School and privately training athletes of all ages, especially children.
Childhood obesity or excess weight threatens the healthy future of 1/3 of American children. We spend $150 billion every year to treat obesity-related conditions, and that number is growing. If we do nothing, Children will actually die earlier than their parents and our medical premiums and costs will continue to spiral out of control. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) is now stating, “Children and adolescents should do 60 minutes or more of physical activity each day”. Michelle Obama has recently started 'Let's Move', America’s Move to Raise a Healthier Generation of Kids. Please join us in starting this movement in our local communities. The challenge of this Expo is how to make exercise and eating right for the whole family. This one day Expo will bring awareness and will educate parents and their children of the importance of eating healthy and staying active. The solution begins here….Will you please join us and make a difference?
